May 20 Night of the Museums Cartagena 2023
Free visits, tours, concerts, workshops, activities and much more on one of the most popular nights of the year in Cartagena
In recent years the Night of the Museums has become one of the most popular dates in the calendar in the historic city of Cartagena, and as the city has emerged from the pandemic over the last couple of years the event has gone from strength to strength. On May 20 2023 a huge turn-out is once again expected at the more than 200 free events and tours which are being held not only during the evening but also throughout the weekend.
Many of the numerous museums in Cartagena will be open until 1.00 in the morning, and there are a host of activities, workshops, live music events and other entertainments scheduled throughout the evening.
The sheer scale of the programme makes translating it an unfeasibly lengthy job (and unfortunately the Town Hall website contains the information only in Spanish), but the following is a list of the main venues. The recommendation is to pick up a map and leaflet once in Cartagena for further orientation! The tourist office should be open on the corner of the Palacio Consistorial and there are likely to be other information points where leaflets and maps can be collected.
When Cartagena held its first Night of the Museums in 2009 only five establishments took part, but there are now 17, the latest additions being the Roman Forum Museum and the museum of the Teatro Apolo in El Algar. In addition, the Centro Regional de Artesanía is among the venues which are offering special free opening hours between 19.00 and 1.00 in the morning.
Also making its debut is the ceramic-tiled mural which stood alongside the Isaac Peral submarine when it was first put on display in 1965: this is now located in the Isaac Peral room.
Meanwhile, returning to the list is the Casa Dorda, a historic modernist building in a similar to that of the Palacio Consistorial (the main Town Hall building).
Ancient history is catered for by the Federación de Carthagineses y Romanos, whose presentation is being held in the cruise ship Passenger terminal on the seafront, and throughout the city centre and in some outlying districts (including Perín and Canteras) a host of guided tours are being held: booking for these becomes available on May 9.
Main venues and opening times May 21:
Museo del Teatro Romano: Guided tours and children's activities during the day, concerts at 21.30 and 23.00.
Roman Forum Museum: Guided tours until 1.00.
Museo from Arte Moderno (Muram) and Palacio de Aguirre: Exhibitions and guided tours throughout the day, Dance and performance arts at 20.00.
Museo Arqueológico Municipal Enrique Escudero de Castro: Neantherthal guided tours at 11.30 and 12.30, The Heartbeat Jazz Band in concert at 21.30.
Museo Histórico Militar: Guided tours during the day, Big Band in concert at 21.30.
Archivo Municipal: Exhibition on the Cantonal uprising of Cartagena in 1873 and Vent i Pedra in concert at 20.00.
Museo Nacional de Arqueología Subacuática (ARQUA): Activities and tours during the day, youth orchestra concert at 20.30.
Museo Naval / Sala Isaac Peral: Visitors are welcome free of charge from 19.00 to 1.00.
Centro de Interpretación Muralla Púnica: Open from 19.00 to 01.00, jazz concert at 22.00.
Civil War Air Raid Shelter Museum: Children's workshop at 17.00, from 19.00 to 01.00.
Castillo de la Concepción: Visitors are welcome free of charge from 19.00 to 1.00.
Casa de la Fortuna: from 10.00 to 15.00.
Augusteum: The Ancient Egypt exhibition is open free of charge until 1.00.
Fuerte de Navidad: visitors are welcomed between 11.00 and 17:30.
Museo del Foro Romano Molinete: from 19.00 to 01.00.
Museo del Vidrio. MUVI: Open to visitors free of charge until midnight.
Museo Etnográfico de los Puertos de Santa Bárbara: Guided visits at 10.00 and 12.00.
Museo de la Ingeniería: Exhibitions open until 1.00.
Museo Teatro Apolo del Algar: Guided visits at 11.00 and 12.30.
Museo Fundación Boyer Tresaco: from 11.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 22.00.
Note: Parking can be very challenging on this evening (see Parking underground car parks and parking open areas) as there are so many people in the city, so allow plenty of time. Time and patience are also needed to move between concerts and it is frequently not possible to get into the events as space is limited, so select one or two, allow time to get there and don't try to jam in too much!

Members regularly return to their extended family at the La Quinta multi-ownership club within La Manga Club
Continuity, security and the constant drive to improve attract visitors back to La Quinta year after year
The 5-star La Quinta in the heart of La Manga Club, the most prestigious sports resort development in the Costa Cálida, has forged a reputation over more than three decades as one of the finest multi-ownership members clubs in Europe, and is currently able to offer a limited number of new membership deals on both permanent and fixed 4-year term conditions.
Located in lush tropical gardens above the par-47 pitch and putt course of La Manga Club, La Quinta is within easy walking distance of the tennis centre and various shopping malls. The properties are luxury air-conditioned linked villas built in the traditional Andalusian style with views out across La Manga Club towards the Mar Menor, and those occupying them can enjoy the community’s saltwater swimming pool with swim-up pool bar, where drinks and snacks are served throughout the day.
La Quinta is also home to La Solana bar and restaurant, which is open to non-members for the superb breakfast and lunch menus!
In short, to remain at the top in a resort which has on various occasions been named the best golf destination in Europe, La Quinta have worked hard to combine a number of factors in what has proved to be a winning formula, the most appreciated according to members’ opinions being the following:
* Quinta Members return for their holidays
* Staff and Members are part of an extended family.
* Safety and security are given top priority.
* The weather is usually predictable and invariably better than at home!
* The standards both at La Quinta and throughout La Manga Club remain high.
* La Quinta always looks forward and tries to provide added interest every year!
