ARCHIVED - New cases continue to fall but remain above 4,000: Valencia Covid update May 27
Of the new infections in Alicante province and the rest of the region, more than 1,800 are over the age of 60
The downward trajectory for the first time in weeks continues in the Valencia region with the Ministry of Health reporting 4,255 new cases, a substantial drop on the 6,111 positives confirmed seven days ago.
Hospital admissions are also down significantly with 70 less patients on wards across the region since the last update on Tuesday May 24. Sadly, the number of Covid-related deaths have jumped to 18.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has confirmed 4,255 new cases of coronavirus since the last update on Tuesday, when there were 4,728 confirmed infections.
By provinces, 594 in Castellón (176,057 in total), 1,305 in Alicante (492,531 in total) and 2,356 in Valencia (767,034 in total).
Of these new cases, 1,822 are people over 60 years of age significantly lower than the 2,227 reported three days ago: 308 in Castellón, 571 in Alicante and 943 in Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 699 Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region, 70 less than on Tuesday, 32 of them in the ICU (down 4): 106 in the province of Castellón, 5 in CU; 233 in the province of Alicante, 10 of them in the ICU; and 360 in the province of Valencia, 17 in the ICU.
The Ministry of Health is no longer providing data relating to the number of active cases or how many people have overcome the virus.
Fatalities
A further 18 deaths have been reported reported in the last seven days (5 more than on Tuesday) – 10 men aged between 71 and 93-years-old and eight women aged between 66 and 94. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 9,409: 1,101 in the province of Castellón, 3,575 in the province of Alicante and 4,733 in the province of Valencia.
