Following meetings with resident and business assocations, Benidorm Council in the Marina Baixa has redefined regulated parking zones and colours
Benidorm Town Council has reached an agreement with business and residents' associations to delimit regulated parking areas in the municipality with new colours to define the zones.
As part of the new plans, exclusive parking zones for residents will be coloured orange instead of the current white. These streets are mostly concentrated in the Foietes-Colonia Madrid and Els Tolls areas, although there will also be orange zones on some roads in Rincón de Loix, El Campo and La Cala.
Another new feature will be so-called green zones where residents can park for free but other motorists must pay. These spaces are predominantly located in the area below Mercasa, along with some streets in El Campo, Levante and Rincón de Loix.
As in previous years, much of the Levante area will maintain the blue zone during the summer months, reverting back to free parking at the end of high season.
Finally, Vicente Lorca Alós and Avenida de Xixo will be a green parking area during the winter months, and a blue zone throughout the summer months.
"The green parking zone has been designed above all in streets with many shops and commercial establishments, as requested by residents and business owners," explained Councillor for Infrastructure, González de Zárate.
As for the orange zones for residents, these will repainted this month starting from the Colonia Madrid-Foietes area.
"With this new colour, all the doubts that may exist amongst users with regard to the residents' parking zone or the free parking zone will be dispelled," added the councillor, pointing out that until they are repainted, the residents' parking zone is coloured with a continuous white line, while free parking is indicated by a staggered white line.
There are currently approximately 1,694 exclusive parking spaces for residents (orange) throughout Benidorm, although "this will be extended to more areas which are already being looked into".
Free parking spaces for residents and paid parking spaces for other vehicles (green zones) account for a total of 1,586 spaces, which will also be added to as part of the new plans, whilst the areas that will be green in winter and blue in summer offer 310 spaces, and blue zone parking spaces in the municipality total around 1,400.
In addition, there are more than 5,000 spaces in the park and ride car parks located at the main access points to Benidorm and a further 6,000 free parking spaces across the resort.
