ARCHIVED - No budge in intensive care admissions: Murcia Covid update August 18
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Admissions on general wards in the Region have declined, however, and the incidence continues its downward trend
The Region of Murcia is steadily exiting the danger zone for coronavirus and this week’s data show another steady decline in most indicators, chief among them being the cumulative incidence rate, which is swiftly approaching the 300-case mark.
Disappointingly, intensive care admissions remain stagnant, although the number of patients on general wards has fallen by nine since the last update by the regional health authorities.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered just 140 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday August 17, which brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 452,600.
Of the total cases, 82,049 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Wednesday show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has dropped even further to stand at 131.38 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The average incidence over a two-week period also reflects this slowdown, decreasing once more from 338.36 cases last week to 320.38 today.
There has been a significant drop in hospital pressure in last few days: There are currently 203 people hospitalised for Covid in Murcia, compared to 212 in the last update. However, in the last three health reports the data has failed to show any improvement in intensive care occupation, and 12 patients are still being treated for more serious conditions in the Region’s ICUs.
Three more Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,402.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,114,820 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.83% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.85% of people are now double jabbed.
