ARCHIVED - No deaths for first time in six weeks: Valencia Covid update October 1
The Ministry of Health has reported 178 new cases in the region, including Alicante province, but no fatalities for the first time since July 20
The Valencia region moved into its next phase of a return to normality this week with a series of new relaxed measures, and a continued slide in the 14-day cumulative rate, which has fallen almost 17 points from Monday September 27, to 33.18 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
A steady downward trend in the number of new Covid cases, hospital admissions and the cumulative incidence rate, has seen the regional government extend opening hours and allow nightlife venues to stay open until 5am.
These measures have since been modified, and a new order aims to clarify the nightlife dance floor situation, but has led to further confusion, with dancing allowed but the use of dance floors prohibited. There have also been changes to capacity at leisure and sporting venues.
The current measures are in place until October 9, Community of Valencia Day, when traditional civic events and processions will, providing the current trend continues, take place in the capital "within the framework of normality", according to the Governing Board of the Valencia City Council.
And as the vaccination campaign has now reached more than 90% of over 12s, this week also saw the largest mass vaccination sites close on Tuesday September 28 after “having fulfilled their mission” of immunising the majority of the population against coronavirus.
Jabs will still be administered at health centres.
A breakdown of the latest health data shows:
New cases
A further 178 new cases have been reported in the Valencia region, down from 457 on Monday September 27, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 510,196. By province: 42 in Castellón (53,067 in total); 68 in Alicante (187,120 in total) and 68 in Valencia (270,007 in total).
Recoveries
197 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 511,496 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 53,423 in Castellón; 186,849 in Alicante; and 271,167 in Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 169 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, down from 185 on Monday, 52 of whom are being treated in ICUs (two less than at the start of the week): 26 in the province of Castellón, six in ICU; 69 in the province of Alicante, 22 in ICU; and 78 in the province of Valencia, 26 of them in ICU.
