Check now to find the long weekends on the calendar for 2020!
National, regional and local holidays in all 45 municipalities of the Region of Murcia
Although the official list of public holidays seldom contains any surprises, it always arouses great interest as people scan the calendar for “puentes” (bridges), as long weekends are referred to in Spanish.
One peculiarity of the 2020 calendar is that the Day of the Constitution (6th December) falls on a Sunday and is therefore carried over to the following day, forming an automatic “Puente” with the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday 8th!
However, All Saints’ Day (1st November) also falls on a Sunday but is not carried over to the Monday.
In addition, as is invariably the case, the Murcia government has named the two other regional fiestas on the feast day of San José (also Father’s Day, on 19th March) and on Maundy Thursday, which in 2020 falls on 9th April.
The full list of “red day” holidays for 2020 in Murcia thus reads as follows:
Wednesday 1st January (New Year)
Monday 6th January (Three Kings)
Thursday 19th March (San José) (a holiday in Murcia but not in the whole of Spain)
Thursday 9th April (Maundy Thursday) (a holiday in Murcia but not in the whole of Spain)
Friday 10th April (Good Friday)
Friday 1st May (Workers Day)
Tuesday 9th June (Region of Murcia Day) (a holiday in Murcia but not in the whole of Spain)
Saturday 15th August (Assumption Day)
Monday 12th October (National Day of Spain)
Monday 7th December (Constitution Day, carried over from the day before)
Tuesday 8th December (Immaculate Conception)
Friday 25th December (Christmas)
In addition, each municipality nominates its own two local holidays during the year, and in 2019 the Town Halls have chosen the following dates to coincide with local fiestas:
