Daily cases in Murcia are almost at last summer’s levels with almost 600 in one day
As Covid cases soar across Spain and the rest of Europe and concern about the Omicron variant grows, the Region of Murcia has accumulated almost 4,000 active Covid cases; 315 more in just 24 hours.
The number of new coronavirus cases on Thursday December 10 neared the 600 threshold at 561; the highest number of new diagnoses in one day since July 30, when 629 cases were reported in a 24-hour period.
Of the 561 cases, 178 were in the municipality of Murcia, 135 were in Cartagena, 20 were in Totana, 19 were in Torre Pacheco, 17 were in La Unión, 16 were in Molina de Segura, 15 were in San Pedro del Pinatar, 14 were in ALcantarilla, 14 were in Caravaca de la Cruz, 14 were in Jumilla, 13 were in Yecla, ten were in San Javier, nine were in Lorca, eight were in Abarán, seven were in Cieza, seven were in Fuente Álamo, six were in Las Torres de Cotillas, five were in Águilas, five were in Beniel, five were in Santomera, four were in Los Alcázares, four were in Alhama de Murcia, four were in Mula and the rest were distributed in the remaining municipalities.
Hospitalisations and active cases
There are now 143 people hospitalised with Covid in the Region (three more in the past 24 hours), of whom 34 are in intensive care (two fewer than the previous day). Of the 3,983 active cases, there are 3,840 people in self-isolation at home.
Fatalities
On Thursday a 52-year-old man from Health Area I (West Murcia) unfortunately passed away due to Covid, bringing the total death toll in the Region up to 1,776.
Incidence rate
The cumulative incidence rate in the Region of Murcia continues to increase alarmingly week by week and now stands at 337.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days, surpassing the national average once again. This is an almost 40-point increase since the previous figure.
Meanwhile, the seven-day figure stands at 177.1 on average, with some municipalities, such as La Unión (374.9), Cartagena (276.7) and Torre Pacheco (233.1), exceeding this figure with quite some margin.
Vaccines
As of December 10, 2,298,618 Covid vaccines have been administered in the Region of Murcia, just under 10,000 in total this month, which represents a huge decrease in the rate of vaccination.
However, 92.29% of the population have received at least one Covid jab, while 83.16% have been double-jabbed, or have received a Janssen mono-dose.
