ARCHIVED - San Javier pharmacy under investigation for selling non-approved facemasks at 10 euros
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Guardia Civil officers found that a dog was being kept in a storeroom at the same chemist’s
The Guardia Civil took action on Tuesday against a pharmacy in San Javier which was found to be selling FFP2 facemasks for 10 euros each despite the masks having no kind of protective packaging or quality control guarantee.
The Guardia moved in after various complaints about the chemist’s were received from members of the public not only about the masks themselves, but also on the grounds that the staff had refused to supply them with a receipt for their purchases. On searching the premises officers found a total of 150 masks marked “KN95 FFP2”, another 395 of Chinese origin - all of the above in packets of 5 – and a further 14 facemasks in no kind of packaging at all.
It is also reported that the general condition of the premises was below the standard normally associated with pharmacies, and in particular that in a storage area containing products for children the officers found that a dog was being kept and that its urine and excrement were on the floor.
Needless to say, masks were confiscated and the premises concerned faces a hefty fine.
The Murcia Consumers Association is working throughout the region to ensure that members of the public are not being ripped off by unscrupulous businesses taking advantage of the current market shortage.

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
Sensible precautions
The advice being issued to members of the public by medical authorities all over the world coincides on the following points:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
