There have been other big tourist announcements concerning Seville this week
At the FITUR 2024 International Tourism Fair in Madrid, representatives from the Seville City Hall have struck deals with Ryanair for more international flights at the airport this summer and with Booking to try to put a stop to illegal tourist rental apartments.
In addition, it has been announced that the Vuelta Ciclista a España (Cycle Tour of Spain) will arrive in the Andalusian capital city this year.
New flights at Seville airport for summer 2024
Seville airport will expand its flight offer in the coming months with five new destinations spread spread across three airlines. This was announced this Thursday January 25 by City Mayor José Luis Sanz on his second day at FITUR. The new routes are Trieste (Italy), Birmingham (UK) and Budapest (Hungary), which will be operated by Ryanair; Stockholm (Sweden), through Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS); and Madeira (Portugal), with Air Nostrum.
Sanz has announced the connections that will be incorporated in the coming months and they will all will be fully operational by the summer. This was announced after he held a meeting with Elena Cabrera, Ryanair’s manager in Spain.
Both Seville and Málaga airports are also trying to strengthen their connections with North America, especially with flights to New York.
The Ayuntamiento de Sevilla has also promised to put a stop to the proliferation of illegal tourist flats in the city, for which they will partner with Booking.com to detail the collaboration which started a few months ago now for the tourist let platform to remove these types of apartments from the Seville city section of its website.
Booking is responsible for locating those properties that are advertised on its platform but do not meet the necessary requirements to host tourists. As part of the deal with Seville City Hall, they have agreed to increase the quality standards of their accommodation, in line with the commitment by the City Council to curb the excessive supply of tourist flats in the city.
Cycle Tour of Spain
Finally, the director of the Tour of Spain, Javier Guillén, forwarded that the 79th edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a España cycling competition will include Seville as the final finish of the fifth stage, which will take place on August 21, 2024. It will be the first time this competition will pass through the city in 14 years.
Mayor Sanz assured that “the arrival of the peloton will be a great sporting event in Seville”.
