The Ministry of Health registered a further 34,380 infections on Tuesday February 15, almost half the 68,706 recorded on the previous day. This is also the lowest number of daily infections since December 17 when Spain was still a month away from the peak of the sixth wave.
This brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 10,707,286.
Cumulative incidence rate
The downward curve has also been confirmed by the decrease in the cumulative incidence rate at 14 days, which has fallen more than 100 points in the last 24 hours to 1,142.13 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is another record figure – the rate hasn’t been this low since December 23, when it stood at 911.31 cases.
By autonomous community, Andalucía is still the area with the lowest 14-day rate, with just 511.63 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and is right on the cusp of exiting the very high risk category.
The Canary Islands are in a similar situation, with 544.61. At the opposite extreme is Galicia, with 1,790.59 points, followed by Murcia, Comunidad Valenciana and Cantabria. However, all regions have experienced a decline in the last 24 hours.
A significant change has been notified with regard to age groups, as children under the age of 11 have been replaced by young people between 12 and 19 as the population with the highest incidence.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 11,438 patients admitted with Covid throughout Spain, with 1,459 people being treated for more serious symptoms in the ICU.
In the last 24 hours, 1,027 people have been admitted to hospital while 1,632 patients were discharged.
A total of 9.21% of hospital beds are now occupied by Covid patients (down from 9.80% yesterday) while the occupancy rate in intensive care is 15.64% (down from 16.34%).
A further 310 fatalities have been reported, bringing the overall death toll since the health crisis began to 96,906.
