Spring update from Camposol D Gardening and Community Group

The Camposol D Gardening and Community Group address the fly tipping problem and report on ongoing work
Enough is enough!
Fly typing is a constant blight on Camposol. Whether it is green waste on B and D Sectors, inappropriate waste and furniture left by the bin areas or contractor waste dumped on the surrounding countryside or road verges.
The Camposol D Gardening and Community Group has highlighted a series of recent problems and rightly say “Enough is enough! We are sure the whole of Camposol agrees and wants fly tipping stamped out.”
The D gardening teams spent the last few months pruning the oleanders and trees along the top of Avenida de los Covachos. The verges where lined with stones and at the weekend, gravel laid at the wishing well area.
So to find the remains of a metal gazebo dumped on top of the verges we cleared is frustrating and disappointing. The group’s volunteers spent hours improving this area for the benefits of residents. They are now asking themselves “why do we bother?”
A few days later an old sofa and numerous black bags have been dumped near the area known as the “lone garden”.
D Group says to residents “Stop fly tipping. Insist your builders remove the waste legally and not on to the campo or verges”
The group efforts are making a difference on D Sector. Now it’s your turn, stop fly tipping!
On a happier note the Camposol D Gardening and Community Group celebrate the work of the volunteers. March was an extremely busy and productive month and demonstrates the hard work the volunteers and others put in to keep sector D and Camposol looking fantastic.
Gardening Teams
The gardening teams have worked their socks off in March. Working on pruning and trimming the yuccas, palms and verges on Calle Esparraguera, laying gravel on the seating area opposite Saladillo Golf and trimming the hedge from the D group hut on the corner of Ave de los Covachos and Calle Quesada up to the triangular traffic island at the junction of Calle Tejos.
The wishing well corner has been refreshed with new gravel laid, a path to the countryside created and the verges lined with stones. Finished off with the weed spraying on "weed alley".
Project Team
Whist still working on projects on sector D, the team has expanded its scope by recruiting a team of volunteers across all sectors on Camposol. This will enable the team to work across Camposol. Examples of the projects completed are: removal of green waste for an Age Concern client, installation of a large gazebo to provide shade on the Petanca courts at the bottom of Calle Piteras and topping up the sand to level off the playing surface on the Petanca courts on Calle Esparraguera.
Events and fundraising
Thanks to The Diner for allowing D Group to hold a raffle on their Wednesday night quiz night which raised 190 euros for the Group. Thanks go to Jay Leatherland and his staff and those who took part in the quiz for their support.
Tickets were going fast for our Spanish Flamenco Night on April 11, but you may be lucky to snap up the last few tickets, phone 605 184 170 or email dsecevents@gmail.com or see the group Facebook page for details of this and other exciting events planned this year.
