ARCHIVED - Summer weather hits Spain this weekend: forecast Mar 24-26
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Several regions of Spain will top 30 degrees in the bright and sunny weekend ahead
Far from the unpredictable and dreary weather that is typical of spring, Spain will enjoy an unseasonably warm, sunny and dry couple of days over the first weekend of spring as the stability is set to continue in most of the country. The northern municipalities will see their fair share of showers, as per usual, but several provincial capitals will have the thermometers soaring past 30ºC.
Friday March 24
According to the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET), this Friday, a weak front will sweep in and result in cloudy skies and occasional rain in the northwest of Spain. These showers will subside during the afternoon and while it will tend to be a little cloudy across the country, there will be plenty of clear spells too.
The temperatures will take a welcome rise in the Mediterranean area and the Balearic Islands but will drop in the north. Thermometers will climb to a toasty 28ºC in Alicante province while in Andalucía, the mercury will hover between 24 and 28ºC.
Saturday March 25
The inactive frontal system will continue to affect the extreme north on Saturday, creating plenty of clouds and showers in the second half of the day in Galicia and Asturias.
The temperatures, according to Aemet, will drop abruptly by at least a couple of degrees along the Mediterranean coast and in the Ebro valley, but the mercury will continue to rise at the height of the day in the rest of Spain and in the Canary Islands.
Saturday night will see the thermometers climb in the south but inland areas could still see some overnight frost.
Unusually for Spain, several areas will experience a big thermal difference between day and night. In Castilla y León, for example, the difference between the minimum and maximum temperatures could be as much as 20ºC.
Sunday March 26
As we head into the last day of the weekend, the rains will extend from Galicia to the entire northern area, resulting in abundant showers in Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, Navarra and Aragon.
In the rest of Spain, on the other hand, the weather will be marked by clear skies and high temperatures, especially in the Mediterranean area and Andalucía.
Aemet predicts that the thermometers will register a baking 32ºC in Murcia while all the Andalucían provinces and those in the Valencian Community it will easily exceed 20ºC.
