ARCHIVED - Taxi quota halved at Corvera airport due to lack of winter flights

The minimum number of taxis based at the terminal drops to between 10 and 12

Before the Region of Murcia International Airport opened in Corvera on 15^th January this year there was a fierce argument among taxi drivers from various municipalities over who would be allowed to offer their services outside the terminal building, but now that the 2019-20 winter flight schedules are in operation the low frequency of flights is leading to fewer cabbies wanting to ply their trade there.

In the end the right to park in the ranks at Corvera was awarded exclusively to drivers registered in the municipality of Murcia, with an agreement being reached to ensure that at least 22 cars were based at the airport every day, but that figure is to be reduced to between 10 and 12 next year. In reality, at present on some days there are no more than three flights a day arriving at the airport, and there are simply too many taxis based there to make their presence viable, although that may change over the forthcoming festive season.

The alteration of the terms comes after negotiations between Radio Taxi Murcia and the Town Hall of Murcia, and it is reported that all parties were in agreement as the quota can now be decided upon in the light of actual evidence rather than hypothetical projections of expected demand.

Taxi rates at Corvera airport:

All journeys to or from the airport have a single fare of 29 euros to the centre of Murcia. This fixed rate covers Ronda Sur and the avenues of Miguel Induráin, Reino de Murcia, Doctor Guillén and Ronda Oeste, and it also includes Espinardo and the districts of La Arboleja, La Albatalía, Los Dolores, Santiago y Zaraíche and Puente Tocinos. This fare covers the entire cost of the service, with all supplements included, and no other charge may be applied.
