Three official collection points for vital donations to help Ukrainian refugees following Russia's invasion have been set up by the Valencian Government with one in each of the region's three provinces.

The public can donate medical supplies and other essential items directly to their local councils which will then, in coordination with the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP), transport them to the logistics centres at Feria Valencia, the City of Light in Alicante and the Cocherón Provincial in Castelló de la Plana.

Companies, on the other hand, can take donations directly to the centres.

The regional government will then coordinate the convoy of humanitarian aid with the Ukrainian and Polish governments which deliver the supplies to various logistics centres in Poland, from where, through 'green corridors', the donations will be distributed.

Items most in-demand include:

Medical supplies: bandages, cotton wool, iodine, analgesic ointments, antibiotics, hydrogen peroxide, medicines for the stomach or to treat burns, bandage tourniquets, first aid kits or orthopaedic items such as wheelchairs, walkers and crutches.

Textiles: clothing and footwear (for both adults and children), blankets, towels, bedding and thermal underwear.

Personal hygiene: wet wipes, sanitary towels and tampons, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and detergents.

Shelter: foam sleeping mats, tents, mattresses, sleeping bags, tent heaters, heaters, batteries, power banks, generators and torches.

Non-perishable foodstuffs: canned food, dried fruit and nuts, plain chocolate, energy bars, biscuits, coffee and tea, baby food and powdered milk, drinking water, as well as disposable plates, spoons, knives and glasses.

Electronic devices: mobile phones (both new and used in good condition), walkie-talkies, radio transmitters, radios, laptops and tablets (with as long a battery life as possible),

Other items: 10 and 20 litre liquid containers and sturdy backpacks.

Wherever possible, donations should be placed in boxes with an outer sticker indicating the contents (description and quantity) in both English and Spanish, and whether or not the contents are breakable.

To make distribution easier, food stuffs should be packaged in smaller formats, for example 50 x 1 kilo rather than one large 50 kilo parcel. Again, where possible, hygiene products should preferably be individually packed similar to a toiletry bag.
