ARCHIVED - Two unvaccinated women die in Murcia: Covid update October 29
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
One of the women was just 52 years old, showing that the virus continues to claim lives even as infection rates remain stable
Two women in the Murcia region have died from Covid in the last 24 hours alone, one of them 52 years old and the other 89 years old. Initial reports suggest that neither of them, for whatever reason, was vaccinated against the virus.
Thursday October 28 saw the highest number of infections since last week, with 71 new positive cases recorded. On the whole, the number of infections remains fairly stable, but it’s one to look out for.
New infections
The last 24 hours saw 71 new cases of coronavirus reported in the Murcia region, 20 of which were in the municipality of Murcia, 18 in Cartagena, seven in Torre Pacheco, five in Los Alcázares, five in Molina de Segura, three in San Javier, two in Lorca, two in Mazarrón and two in Calasparra. The rest were distributed among the other towns.
This brings the number of current active cases to 681. The level of new daily cases is around the same as last week, when there were frequently 60 or 70 new cases per day, meaning the overall situation is relatively stable.
Cumulative incidence rate
The incidence rates also remain stable this week with 56.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the Region of Murcia over the last 14 days, which is just half a point more than last week. The 7-day incidence rate, meanwhile has dropped from 32 cases to 25.2, indicating that this week has been better than last.
Hospitalisations
Hospitals recorded a slight decrease in occupancy due to Covid-19. There are currently 44 people admitted to health centres in the Region of Murcia, two less than this time last week, and 11 people are in the ICU. The remaining 637 people who have tested positive for coronavirus are self-isolating at home.
Fatalities
The coronavirus pandemic continues to claim fatalities despite the fact that infections remain stable in the Region of Murcia. Two people lost their lives in the last 24 hours and raised the total number of deaths to 1,755. The deceased are two women aged 89 and 52 years from health areas II (Cartagena) and IV (Northwest) respectively.
Recoveries
In contrast, there are now 139,854 who have happily recovered from the virus in the Murcia region.
