ARCHIVED - Vaccination campaign in Murcia region moves on to teenagers
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
As of last night nearly 765,000 Murcianos were fully vaccinated
The regional government has announced that from Saturday onwards (July 31) young people aged between 12 and 19 years of age and living in the capital of the Region can request an appointment via the online booking system of the Murcian Health Service, for the first vaccinations in this age group which will begin on Sunday August 1.
The self-citation system for this age range will open for other municipalities of the Region within the next few days depending on the availability of vaccines.
The supply of vaccines nationwide has slowed down in the last couple of weeks due purely to the fashion in which orders are being satisfied by the manufacturers, struggling to meet demand from all over the world, and the decision of the Spanish government not to administer further doses of AstraZeneca to the population.
The Murcian regional government, along with the other regions of Spain, have been calling insistently this week for more vaccines, having administered virtually all of their stock.
The regional government aims to open the booking system for other municipalities such as Cartagena, Lorca, Molina de Segura and Alcantarilla, before moving on to other areas throughout August.
The aim is to vaccinate as many young people as possible before the beginning of the next school year.
Fuente Álamo council also announced on Friday that it was also taking bookings for young people aged 18 and 19 years, after receiving approval from Public Health.
This week the municipality has been vaccinating the 20-29 age group, and will finish administering the second dose for this age group on August 20.
As the appointments are being handled at local level and not via the app, as is the case in other smaller municipalities with a lower level of population, Fuente Álamo is well ahead of other areas in the age group currently being vaccinated.
Across the whole region there are now 764,722 Murcianos fully vaccinated with two doses and a further 198,175 individuals who have been given a first dose.
If you have NOT been vaccinated and are over 30, contact your local health centre and make sure they are aware of this information. This office continues to receive emails from foreign nationals who have not been vaccinated and claim they are being discriminated against, but when we speak to the authorities we are told time and time again that the language barrier is the principal problem, with foreign nationals who do not speak Spanish not booking appointments via the app. so thereby missing their local vaccination days and not attending appointments when they have been called.
Even if you have been to the health centre five times, go again, and if you don´t speak Spanish, take somebody with you who does and insist that you are given an appointment or are told when the next vaacination day is being organised for your age group as you have the same rights as everybody else to a vaccine.
We cannot call on your behalf; we don´t have the resources ourselves.
