Warm and sunny all weekend: Spain weather forecast November 9-12
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
A new surge of heat will hit Spain in the coming days but the winds will pick up again
Weather forecast Sunday November 12
After several weeks of instability in much of the country due to storms Ciarán and Domingos, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has announced the arrival of an anticyclone that will give way to a rise in temperatures and calmer weather just in time for the weekend.
Gone are the heavy rains that hit all of Spain in the early days of November, to be replaced with clear skies and much warmer days. However, the wet weather will persist in the northwest of Spain.
Each year, Spanish meteorologists anticipate the arrival of the ‘San Martín summer’, a brief burst of heat around November 11 before the real winter sets in, and it seems that 2023 is to be no exception.
Thursday November 9
Much of northern Spain and the Balearic Islands remain on alert for rough seas on Thursday but the rain due to hit these regions isn’t likely to spread too far south. After a dark start, the skies should clear later in the morning, giving way to plenty of sunny spells.
Daytime temperatures will increase almost everywhere but most noticeably in the southeast, while the night will also be much warmer than earlier in the week.
Friday November 10
The north of the country will feel the impact of several fronts on Friday and the alerts for dangerous waves have been upgraded to orange in Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia and the Basque Country. The cloudiness will extend towards the southeast later in the day but it will be much brighter along the Mediterranean and Andalusian coasts.
While daytime temperatures will dip slightly, the thermometers will still hit the high teens and low 20s in much of the south.
Saturday November 11
More unsettled weather is forecast in the north and in the Balearic Islands on Saturday but the day will be settled and pleasant in the rest of the country. It will be slightly cloudy everywhere though and the westerly winds will begin to gain strength, with gusts forecast in the northeast and along the coasts.
Temperatures will take a drastic upswing reaching 26ºC or 27ºC in Alicante and Murcia.
Sunday November 12
The weather will continue to stabilise across the country as the weekend comes to a close with the usual exception of the northwest, where an Atlantic front will give rise to overcast skies and heavy rain.
Elsewhere, the day will be quite cloudy but dry and the temperatures will shoot up once more in the Balearic and Canary Islands and eastern Spain, reaching an unseasonable 29ºC in Murcia.
Westerly winds will predominate in most of the country, more intense in the north and east, with a chance of strong gusts.
