ARCHIVED - 214 new cases and 6 deaths; Coronavirus Region of Murcia Thursday 3rd December
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
One of the deceased was only 46
The number of new cases of coronavirus reported on Thursday 3rd December (214) was slightly lower than the 237 diagnosed on Wednesday, as the region continues to report considerably lower numbers of cases than a month ago.
These latest figures for new cases are equivalent to those being reported at the end of August.
Of the new cases, 40 correspond to Murcia, 30 to Cartagena, 21 to Los Alcázares, 20 to Torre Pacheco, 13 to San Javier, 10 to Lorca, 9 to San Pedro del Pinatar , 9 to Totana, 8 to Alhama de Murcia, 7 to Cieza, 7 to Molina de Segura. The rest are distributed amongst the remaining municipalities in smaller quantities.
Fatalities:
There were six further deaths from Covid in the last 24 hours: four men and two women aged between 46 and 88. Two of the deceased come from Murcia, two from Cartagena, one from Lorca and another from Archena. Their deaths bring the total to date to 619 since the pandemic began in March.
Hospitalisations: The total of patients hospitalised fell by 46 to 341 patients with more severe cases of covid requiring hospital treatment and by 5 patients in intensive care units taking the total down to 86.
3,821 people remain in home isolation with mild symptoms.
Recoveries; the total number of recoveries rose by almost 1,000 in a day, taking the total of those who have been diagnosed with a positive PCR test but are now deemed to have recovered, to 48.538.
The rate of infections in the Region is now among the lowest in the country, only surpassed by the Canary Islands. There are currently 90 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, according to the latest Epidemiology report. This is a major improvement compared to the data of a month ago, when the figure was almost 400 cases per 100,000 of population. At this point on October 30th the regional Government ordered the perimeter closure of the Region of Murcia and its 45 municipalities; it is now looking highly probable that on Monday the Covid Monitoring Committee will recommend that the internal municipal movement restrictions be removed. It is probable that the external border restriction will remain.
It is also possible that the opening of internal areas within bars will again be authorised; business associations had called for this to be done before this weekend so that the hostelry sector could take advantage of the Bank Holidays on Monday and Tuesday, but the request was denied as the health authority is very concerned about the potential of a third wave of infections if the public becomes too complacent during the festive season.
