All Covid indicators except hospitalisations are decreasing in the Region of Murcia
The sixth wave is continuing its decline in the Region of Murcia as well as in the rest of Spain, with the latest update reporting just 766 new cases this Sunday January 30.
766 new positive cases were registered this Sunday, which is 855 fewer than last Sunday January 23, corresponding with a 53% decrease. The figures for Friday and Saturday were slightly higher: 2,430 and 2,236 respectively.
Active cases
The number of active cases has dropped below the 30,000 mark for the first time since January 9 and now stands at 29,802.
Two more patients were admitted into hospital over the weekend, leaving the total number of hospitalisations at 667, while 81 patients (one more) are currently in intensive care.
These figures mean that the hospital occupancy rate is 15.5% in the Region, while the ICU rate is two points higher, according to the Minister of Health. Of the 81 people, who are aged between 19 and 85, in intensive care, 73% are unvaccinated.
Fatalities
This Sunday, five people died with Covid in the Region, three men and two women aged between 76 and 97. These recent fatalities bring the total death toll up to 1,971.
Recoveries
9,617 people were given the all-clear over the weekend, making the total number of recoveries 287,096.
Incidence rate
According to Murcia Salud, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate now stands at 4,076 cases per 100,000, which is still an incredibly high figure, but is almost 400 points lower than on Thursday January 27. Meanwhile, the 7-day rate has also dropped and is now 1,724.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Vaccines
Medical staff continue to administer first, second and third doses of the coronavirus vaccine and, as of Friday January 28, 99.42% of the target population had received at least one jab, while 87.11% had been given both doses.
