ARCHIVED - A big thank you to all involved in the Camposol refuse bin refurbishment project
ARCHIVED ARTICLE We have bin and done it (sorry...), teamwork at its best in Camposol
The completion of the first household waste site refurbishment is the first step in the planned refurbishment of the major waste sites on Camposol Sector D and represents a significant achievement. This is how the site looks after the refurbishment, and we think you will agree it is now more organised, tidier and safer as bins are now stored off-road.
The plan to refurbish the household waste sites came about during discussions between the Sector D Community and Gardening Group, Camposol 2025 and Mazarrón Council., the aim being to improve and extend the waste sites on D, making them easier to clean and also take the waste containers off the main roads. From these discussions it became obvious that Calle Esparraguera was the top priority.
The Esparaguera site had waste bins stored on the road, which clearly was unsafe, untidy and unkempt, with builder’s waste strewn along the area. The glass collection pod area was covered in broken glass and along the site household items had been dumped. The photo shows the state of the site before the refurbishment
Following visits from the Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol and the Manager of Bahía de Mazarrón Ingeniería the concern that controls urban waste collection for Mazarrón Council, permission was granted within 24 hours - who says the council never make quick decisions?!
A team of volunteers met to discuss the most effective design and work started to complete the project over a two-week period. The result is that the waste containers are now stored in an extended area, the pods and containers are stored off-road on concrete pads, the area is easier to clean and road safety has improved as all bins are stored off-road.
Lots of thanks are in order, firstly to Sector D Community and Gardening Group for sponsoring the refurbishment, Camposol 2025 for project management, and Silvana Buxton, Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol and International Relations for liaising with the council on permissions and the agreement to proceed with the project. Thanks also to the gardening team for their tremendous efforts in clearing away the rubbish around the site and surrounding area, and finally to the building team, Brian, Phil and Stuart.
So on to phase two and it can be confirmed that two further sites will be refurbished, firstly at the top of Calle Fresnos / along Calle Babinas and secondly Calle Frangulas. The timeline for both projects is for completion late 2022, early 2023. There will be two further phases in 2024 and 2025. If you would like your local waste site in Camposol refurbished, please contact a member of the Sector D committee and perhaps think about getting you and your neighbours to fund a refurbishment project!
