Aldi set to expand in Murcia with new stores opening in 2025
More than 7 million households in Spain now choose to do their shopping in Aldi
Aldi is gearing up for an exciting year of growth in the Region of Murcia, with plans to open several new stores in 2025 as part of its nationwide expansion strategy.
The German supermarket giant, which has consistently expanded its footprint in Spain over recent years, plans to add nearly 40 new locations across the country this year.
The Region of Murcia is one of the standout areas in Aldi’s ambitious plans, alongside the Balearic and Canary Islands. The expansion kicks off with a new store opening in Lanzarote later this month, signalling Aldi’s commitment to extending its reach into Spain’s island communities.
Beyond Murcia, Aldi will also strengthen its presence in strategic in other locations up and down the country, such as Andalucía, Madrid, the Valencian Community and Catalonia, meaning that these regions will account for more than half of the expansion planned for this year.
The first of these openings will take place this coming Wednesday January 15, in the city of Barcelona and next Friday January 17, in the city of Valencia.
In addition, the supermarket chain will continue to grow in the north of the country, with brand new supermarkets in the Basque Country, Aragon, Galicia and Cantabria.
Supporting this northern push, the German chain recently reinforced its logistical capabilities with a new distribution centre in Miranda de Ebro, Burgos, ensuring smooth operations across its growing network.
Aldi CEO Valentín Lumbreras stressed that the company remains "committed to offering their customers a simple, quality shopping experience at low prices."
"With our growth and expansion plans in Spain, we continue to expand our presence throughout the country, which also allows us to be closer to our customers and continue generating stable, quality employment," he added.
At the end of 2024, Aldi boasted 468 supermarkets and more than 7,500 employees in Spain.
In the last year, the company has gained more than 387,000 customers and is positioned as the supermarket chain with the highest customer growth in Spain in 2024, with around 7.4 million Spanish households now choosing to shop at Aldi.
