ARCHIVED - Andalusia continues to have the lowest incidence rate in Spain: Covid update September 16
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The cumulative incidence rate in Andalusia keeps dropping steadily, and now stands at just 84.93
Despite an upturn since the last count of around 50% in the number of new Covid-19 infections – from 600 to 900 – and by the same amount in deaths – from 14 to 19 – Andalusia remains (as it has done for many weeks now) the autonomous community in Spain with the lowest cumulative incidence rate. The incidence rate is now below 85 cases per 100,000 people in the region, a real achievement considering Andalusia is one of these largest regions in the country in terms of size and population.
New infections
Andalusia has registered this Friday, September 16, a total of 987 new cases of coronavirus since last Tuesday, of which 536 are in people over 60 years old, bringing the total number of infections in Andalusia since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,601,047.
This latest figure of new infections is almost 50% more in the last three days than the 600 or so registered in the previous 4-day period.
Hospitalisations
The Andalusia Ministry of Health also announced that the region has recorded 18 more hospital admissions since Tuesday, bringing the total to 178. Admissions to intensive care units also fell by two to nine.
By provinces, Seville recorded 31 hospitalised patients with two in ICU, followed by Malaga with 41, of which three are in ICU; Jaen, with 21 hospitalised patients of which one is in ICU; Granada with 19 and none in ICU; Almeria, also with 19 and none in ICU; Cadiz, with 14 and one in ICU; Córdoba, with 15 and three in ICU; and Huelva, with 18 and one in ICU.
Cumulative incidence rate
With regard to the current average incidence rate of infection in Andalusia in the last 14 days in people over 60 years of age, this Friday it fell again to 84.93 points per 100,000 inhabitants, 1.38 points less than four days ago.
Deaths
The number of deaths from Covid in Andalusia has increased by 21, up to a total of 15,159 since the beginning of the pandemic.
