April 6-9 Los Alcazares celebrates a Holy Week with barbarian raids and medieval market
The Berber Incursions of Los Alcázares will feature parades, music, children’s entertainment and one of the biggest medieval markets in Spain
The municipality of Los Alcázares will travel back to the 16th and 17th centuries this Easter and play host to its traditional colourful parades of Berber pirates between April 6 and 9.
For a few days, the streets of Los Alcázares will transform into a scene from the Middle Ages as visitors and locals are invited to enjoy a Semana Santa with a difference!
The celebrations kick off on Thursday April 6 with the traditional lighting of the flame and the opening of the medieval market. Not to be missed is the spectacular Berber landing, when the pirates descend on Los Alcázares and the Grand Parade on Saturday, where the peasants will meander through the streets bathed in torchlight.
As well as the musical and artistic performances that will dominate the four-day festivities, this year will also feature a medieval tournament on La Concha Beach and children's activities that will take place from Los Luisos and the Fairgrounds.
“This year we are going to enjoy some unique Berber Incursions in which more partygoers than ever will participate. There will be more than 800 people who are part of the 20 participating clubs that will be installed in the festive camp located in the Fairgrounds,” explained the councillor José Carlos Castejón.
The nights will come alive with performances by Los Inhumanos, La Mundial and Los Celtas Cortos in the Fiestas area where the council will set up food and drinks stalls for all to enjoy.
“We are very excited about this year's program, which promises fun and entertainment and allows us to offer a tourist alternative on Holy Week dates that is unique in the Region of Murcia,” said the Mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Pérez Cervera.
Another highlight of the festival is the medieval market, which over the years has become one of the largest and most visited in all of Spain. This year it’s going to be bigger than ever, stretching from the downtown area of Los Alcázares to the main festival venue.
“There will be more booths, more variety, and more entertainment for the whole family. Once you enter the network of streets and alleys that make up this medieval market, it will transport you to the 16th and 17th centuries with its smells, music and dances. It will be something magical,” concluded Sr Castejón.
