ARCHIVED - Covid deaths creep up over Christmas: Murcia pandemic update Dec 27
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The Region of Murcia has registered 10 Covid-related fatalities in the last week
With the Christmas season in full swing, most of the coronavirus numbers in the Region of Murcia have remained pretty stable, with hospital admissions even dropping since the last update. However, the bad news is that Covid-related deaths have taken a big upswing in the last seven days, and ten more people have lost their lives to the pandemic.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 403 cases of coronavirus in the latest update, a slight drop on the 456 infections recorded a week ago.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 463,086.
Of the total cases, 89,895 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Monday December 26 show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has taken another welcome dip, dropping to just 55.17 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is an excellent indication that infection numbers should continue to fall in the coming days.
However, the more important average incidence over a two-week period has also experienced a decrease over the Christmas period, dropping 3 points in the last two weeks to stand at 122.54 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Hospital pressure has fallen considerably with 38 patients currently admitted for Covid (a decrease of 3 since last Monday), two of whom are begin treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICU (no change).
Ten additional Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,492.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,252,888 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 94% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.60% of people are now double jabbed.
