ARCHIVED - Intensive care units empty: Murcia Covid update Feb 28
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
ICU wards across the Murcia Region are empty of Covid patients for the first time this year
The routine pandemic data have given a huge boost to the Region of Murcia this week, showing that intensive care units across the community are virtually empty of coronavirus patients. In addition, hospital pressure in general has plummeted, with 12 fewer patients admitted today than this time last week.
Coronavirus infections
A total of 465,152 cases of coronavirus have been detected in the Region of Murcia since the beginning of the pandemic, 92,192 of which have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative rate has taken another significant nosedive this week, dropping to 23.78 infections per 100,000 inhabitants – that’s a decrease of 12.49 points. In addition, the 7-day figure is far less than 50% of the two-week number (12.50), which is a good indication that the infections will continue to fall.
The most staggering difference this week is in relation to hospital pressure. There are currently just 15 patients admitted for Covid in the Region, which is a big drop in the 27 registered on the same day last week. More dramatically, though, ICU occupancy levels have dropped to zero (down from 2 last week).
Four additional Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,530.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,281,041 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 92.8% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.2% of people are now double jabbed.
