ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Hospital pressure in the Murcia Region has taken yet another dip as the festive season approaches
Christmas week gets off to a positive start in the Region of Murcia as the Covid incidence rate has dropped more than 7 points. While the health authorities in Spain are growing concerned about the emergence of yet another Omicron variant, the new strain is yet to impact the Murcia medical services, as hospitalisations have also seen a reduction in the latest update from Monday December 20.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 456 cases of coronavirus in the latest update a considerable drop on the 977 infections recorded a week ago.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 462,683.
Of the total cases, 89,574 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Monday December 19 show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has taken another welcome dip, dropping to just 66.76 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is an excellent indication that infection numbers should continue to fall in the coming days.
However, the more important average incidence over a two-week period has experienced a dramatic decrease, dropping more than 7 points in the last two weeks to stand at 125.28 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Hospital pressure has fallen considerably with 41 patients currently admitted for Covid (a decrease of 5 since last Monday), two of whom are begin treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICU (no change).
Five additional Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,482.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,249,203 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 94% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.60% of people are now double jabbed.
