ARCHIVED ARTICLE Although Murcia has the lowest cases and deaths in Spain it’s too early for complacency and we still have more than 62,000 active cases across Spain

Although Murcia continues to be the region with the lowest number of cases and deaths in Spain it is still too early to be complacent, and although our cases have been on a steady downward trajectory for the last two weeks, the initiation of phase one is a time for increased caution as the public once again returns to the streets and the possibility of contagious contacts increases.
A reminder that we’re not yet out of the woods came yesterday when the region recorded three new deaths and twenty new cases in a 24- hour period.
The fatalities list increased to 142 yesterday, bad news following three consecutive days with no deaths reported and the number of ACTIVE CASES increased by 20 to 395.
Our regional health authority is continuing to play catch-up, contacting members of the public who called in to the regional helpline reporting mild Covid-19 symptoms and are now being called in to health centres and tested using the rapid tester kits method.
Although most of these individuals have recovered from the virus and are no longer contagious, the testing procedure is finding some individuals who have not yet made a full recovery, are now classified as “active cases” and are still potentially contagious.
More than 52,000 tests have been carried out here in the Murcia Region with 1,525 individuals found to be Covid positive using the PCR swab system and 873 using the rapid test system which shows if antibodies are present in the blood, but are NOT included in the “official cases” list produced by the national Health Ministry or recognised by the WHO.
24 further people are now in home- quarantine, bringing this total up to 360, with 12 patients in intensive care and 35 in hospital.
1,861 people are known to have recovered from Covid-19 in the region, 42 more than on Monday.
The total number of “active cases in Spain is now 62,130.
National figures presented on Tuesday lunchtime, compiled from data submitted during Monday from the 17 regional health services of Spain showed an increase in both the number of cases and the number of deaths. These will be updated shorty based on data submitted on Tuesday evening by the 17 regional health authorities, including the figures above from Murcia:
Number of cases:228,030 (426 in the last 24 hours)
Number of recoveries: 138,980 (1,841 in the last 24 hours)
Number of fatalities: 26,920 (176 in the last 24 hours)
YESTERDAY THERE WERE STILL 62,000 ACTIVE CASES OF COVID-19 ACROSS SPAIN: TAKE SENSIBLE MEASURES TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND PREVENT THE FURTHER SPREAD OF THE CORONAVIRUS.
