Carlos Alcaraz set to open Tennis City in Murcia next year

Murcia city’s own native son, tennis champ Carlos Alcaraz, will be opening his own tennis centre in 2026

A state-of-the-art tennis complex is coming to Murcia, further cementing the city’s reputation as a hub for racket sports. The Carlos Alcaraz Tennis City, from the hand of the local wunderkind himself, will be built at Polideportivo El Palmar II, featuring three new tennis courts, two pickleball courts and a dedicated parking area.

Miguel Ángel Noguera Gómez, Murcia’s Councillor for Sports, announced that the project has been approved by the Board of Governors, with work set to begin in July 2025.

“Murcia has established itself as a benchmark in the world of racket sports,” Noguera stated, highlighting the city’s ongoing commitment to expanding and improving its sports infrastructure.

The new tennis courts will measure 18.29 x 36.58 metres, while the pickleball courts will be 10.36 x 19.50 metres. A specially designed platform will ensure all five courts are on the same level, providing improved accessibility and a clear view of the football pitch.

The complex will also include a 44-space open-air car park, accessible from La Paloma road, with two spaces designated for people with reduced mobility. An intelligent pedestrian access system will be installed, and the existing entrance will be moved to create a new recreational area.

This recreational space will feature shaded seating, a children’s play area and two adapted toilets for those with reduced mobility. Sports-themed graffiti will adorn the retaining walls within the centre, adding a vibrant touch to the facility. To ensure durability and comfort, a drainage system will be implemented to prevent dampness and maintain the courts in top condition.

The project is structured as a multi-year initiative, with the contract expected to be awarded in June 2025. Construction is set to begin the following month and is scheduled for completion by March 2026.

Once finished, the facility will partner with the Carlos Alcaraz Foundation to promote sport in the municipality. This collaboration aims to develop a sports programme that includes federated competition, sports schools, technical training and racket sport education, alongside promotional campaigns to encourage community participation.
