The Region registered two more deaths and the incidence rate has dropped once more
After several weeks of decline and finally stabilising below the 1,000-mark, daily infections in the Region of Murcia are now closer to 500 as the health situation continues to improve. The cumulative incidence rate has also dropped a further 40 points overnight to stand at 819.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Thursday February 24 and is fewer than 180 points above the national average.
Coronavirus infections
The regional health authorities have notified just 554 new infections on Thursday, the lowest daily infections figure of the week and a significant decrease on the 730 cases reported on the same day last week.
Of the total number of infections, 193 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 81 to Cartagena, 34 to Molina de Segura, 17 to Águilas, 17 to Cieza, 14 to Alcantarilla, 14 to Lorca, 13 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 11 to San Javier, 10 to Archena, 10 to Yecla, 10 to Cehegín. The remaining cases are distributed throughout the other municipalities.
Fatalities
Although the number of deaths is also decreasing, two Covid-related deaths were reported on Thursday. The deceased are a woman aged 72 and a man aged 78 years-old, both from health area I (Murcia Oeste).
This data brings the total number of fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,149.
Hospitalisations
Hospital pressure hasn’t undergone any major changes in the past 24 hours. At the moment, there are 275 people hospitalised for Covid, three fewer than the previous day, while 41 patients are fighting the virus in the Region’s ICUs, which is one more than the day before.
In addition, another 11,460 residents of the Region are in home isolation after testing positive while active infections have dropped by 93 cases to 11,735.
Vaccination data
Almost 91% of the population of the Region of Murcia is now fully immunised as 1,213,199 people over the age of 12 have received both vaccines.
