ARCHIVED - Covid incidence drops by 10 per cent: Murcia pandemic update May 17
Five more fatalities have been registered in the Murcia Region but ICU pressure continues to decline
With pandemic data across Spain seemingly only travelling in an upward direction for weeks now, the regional health authorities in Murcia have published the very positive news that the cumulative incidence rate in over 60s has dropped by a significant 10% in recent days.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered 714 new cases of coronavirus on Monday May 16, a slight increase on the 695 infections registered in the last report, published on May 13. This brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 423,232.
Cumulative incidence rate
Despite the rise in infections, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate, which has been growing steadily for days, has dropped to 1,449.16 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the population of over 60s.
This is a good deal higher than the Spanish national average of 856.56, but the fact that the 7-day incidence is less than half the two-week figure (627.34 cases) suggests that the numbers should continue to fall in the coming days.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 312 people hospitalised in Murcia for Covid which is 12 fewer than in the previous health report. Of these, 13 are being treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICUs, which is a reduction of five.
Sadly, five more people have lost their lives to the virus in the last 24 hours, which brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,873.
Diagnostic tests
The Region has carried out a total of 2,922, 368 PCR and antigen tests since the beginning of the pandemic.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.89% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.57% of people are now double jabbed.
Data at a glance from Monday May 16:
Total positives diagnosed in the last 24-hour period: 714
