Thanks to the direction of Gavin and Glenda, La Mariposa is more than just a hotel. The new owners are revitalising the surrounding gardens, aiming to restore the vibrant butterflies and birds that once filled the landscape.

This transformation echoes the spiritual meaning of La Mariposa – hope, renewal and a new beginning – an ethos reflected throughout their welcoming space.

The building was originally used as a ‘Casa del Estanco’, or Tobacco House, serving as a trading post for tobacco and groceries between the ports of Cartagena and Caravaca.

In 2001, it was converted into a welcoming nine-bedroom rural hotel with an honest, down-to-earth feeling that helps guests reconnect with nature and themselves.

Gavin and Glenda are committed to sustainability, and are becoming more eco-friendly by limiting harmful chemicals, planting herbs, vegetables and fruit trees on the land.
