ARCHIVED - Friday Covid figures for Spain and Murcia
A slight increase in the new cases across Spain, Murcia remains steady
Spain: 222,857 cases (1095 new in the last 24 hours)
Fatalities: 26,299 (229 new9
Cured: 131,148
The daily figures relating to the Covid outbreak in Spain for Friday showed a slight increase in fatalities compared to Thursday (213), with 229 deaths during the last 24 hours and bringing the overall total to 26,299.
Increased testing has continued throughout the week and during the last 24 hours a further 1095 new cases have been recorded via the PCR system, bringing the total number of cases to 222,857.
This is an increase of 341 more new cases than were registered on Thursday (754), although the majority were in just two areas of the country; Cataluña with 543 new cases and Madrid with 148 more. Castilla y León added 91 to its total and the Basque country identified 60 new cases.
The Director of the Coordination Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies, Fernando Simón, said that in overall terms, this rise in cases (from 754 on Thursday to 1,095 on Friday) is "small" and pointed out that the evolution of the epidemic is different in the 17 autonomous regions of the country, as is clearly reflected by the figures presented today.
However, this still leaves 65,400 live cases throughout Spain as it prepares for phase 1 of de-escalation.
Most of the regions of Spain will enter Phase 1 on Monday providing the Ministry of Health feels that the regions have met the criteria for moving into the de-escalation process. Regions which felt that they were ready to move forward submitted their reports to the Ministry during the week and will be notified by Saturday if their petition has been accepted. Two regions have opted to remain at phase zero; Cataluña (51,733 cases) and Castilla y León (17,716), both of which still have high numbers of cases and are reporting higher levels of new cases.
Madrid, which has suffered the highest number of cases and fatalities, (64,333) has requested to enter phase one, but the government is highly unlikely to accept the petition according to reports in the national media this afternoon. Yesterday the regional health director of Madrid, Yolanda Fuentes, resigned following internal disagreement over the topic; although the President of the Region of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, maintains that the region is ready and willing to pass into phase 1, Fuentes disagreed strongly and handed in her resignation. The Health Ministry, it appears, seems inclined to agree with her and looks set to reject the petition of Madrid.
With its low case rate, Murcia meets all of the criteria established for de-escalation.

Hospitalised: 58

Home isolation: 395
Fatalities: 137
Cured 1662
Figures continue to remain positive for the Murcia Region, 135 cases joining the list of cured patients to bring this total up to 1.662.
There were no new fatalities on Thursday, although there was a slight increase in the number of hospitalisations, with two further admissions.
Testing continued and identified three new cases via the PCR swab system which is being used to test hospitalisations and those with severe symptoms and 57 using the rapid test kit system. However, all of those tested by the latter method have now made a full recovery and were automatically classified as “recoveries.”
