ARCHIVED - Hospital admissions continue to see-saw: Murcia Covid update September 16
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The upcoming fourth coronavirus vaccine campaign in the Region should impact the hospitals
The seventh wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the Region of Murcia has been marked by an almost weekly fluctuation in hospital and ICU admissions, and the latest update from the authorities, representing data from Wednesday September 14, is no exception.
The number of patients both on general wards and in the ICU took a welcome dip on Monday, only to jump up again over the last two days, although only one Covid-related death was reported during this period.
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 194 cases of coronavirus since the last update on September 8, of which 84 were reported on Wednesday September 14, which is the most recent data available.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 455,053.
Of the total cases, 83,742 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Wednesday show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has decreased again to stand at 81.39 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is an excellent indication that the health situation should continue to improve.
However, average incidence over a two-week period has increased by two points since Monday, moving from 171.92 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 173.45.
Following its usual see-saw trend, hospitalisations have increased this week, moving from 92 patients admitted up to 105 in the last two days. There has also been a very slight rise in intensive care occupation, with the number of chronically ill patients going from six to seven.
One more Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,433.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,144,728 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.84% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.87% of people are now double jabbed.
