Hospitalisations and new cases appear to be remaining stable in the Region of Murcia while the number of active cases continues to decrease, which could mean that the curve is beginning to plateau.
According to the regional Health Minister, the week-on-week Covid incidence rate in the Region has decreased for the first time in months, providing a “a first positive sign that the curve is starting to bend”.
New cases
A decrease in new daily cases has left Wednesday’s tally at 5,569, following Tuesday’s figure of 6,053 and Monday’s 7,291 cases. The two municipalities with the most daily cases are Murcia (1,742) and Cartagena (766), while all other municipalities reported fewer than 500 cases each.
Active cases
Active cases in the Region have been declining for a few days and the latest figure reported by the Health services is 42,635.
Hospitalisations
The number of Covid patients in hospital is another epidemiological figure which seems to be stabilising with minimal variation since the previous update – 610 to 613. Meanwhile, the number of ICU patients has decreased from 83 to 76 in the past 24 hours, of whom 68% are unvaccinated.
Fatalities
Since the previous update, six Covid-related deaths have been reported, five women and one man aged between 71 and 91. These recent fatalities bring the total number of deaths in the Region since the start of the pandemic to 1,915.
So far, over 2.8 million vaccines (2,881,954) have been administered in Murcia, where 99.06% of the target population have received at least one dose.
Incidence rate
Although the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has decreased since this time last week, Murcia Salud have reported a slight increase since yesterday’s update: from 5,164.1 to 5,167.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. However, this minor variation shows that the sixth wave could have reached its peak, or at the very least, slowed its ascent.
Meanwhile, the 7-day rate has dropped by almost 200 points in the past day and now stands at 2,654.3 cases per 100,000 residents.
