ARCHIVED ARTICLE
207 new Covid cases were registered as hospitalisations remain stable in the Murcia Region
Pandemic data has been swinging high and low for the past number of weeks in the Region of Murcia, but the all-important incidence rate has taken a nosedive in recent days. Although this is positive news, the figure is more than double the Spanish national average, and the regional government has been pushing for the Ministry of Health to authorise a fourth coronavirus vaccine.
The Region of Murcia registered a total of 207 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday May 8, bringing the overall number of infections since the onset of the pandemic to 417,006, of which 61,872 have been recorded in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
After climbing steeply upwards for a number of days, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has plummeted 20% this week. It now stands at 1,767.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is still far higher than the Spanish national average of 676.43 cases.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
In the last 24 hours, one more person has lost their life to Covid in the Murcia Region, which brings the total death toll since the health crisis began to 2,259.
There are currently 318 people hospitalised in the Region with coronavirus (up from 314 on Thursday May 5, when the last report was published). Of these, 14 patients are being treated for more serious illnesses in Murcia ICUs (down 1).
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.87% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.51% of people are now double jabbed.
