The Spanish city plans to launch a festival of concerts, talks and exhibitions to celebrate the Fab Four

Liverpool and Seville join forces for the first ever Beatlefest in 2023

John, Paul, George and Ringo, known to the Spanish as ‘Los Beatles’, are still as popular in Spain as they ever were since they formed back in 1960, and as they still are around the world. So it’s not surprising that the popular Andalusian capital of Seville will be launch the first ever ‘Beatlefest’ this year (although instead of this year they could have waited until 2024, when the Beatles are 64…)

Due to hit Seville’s streets from October 26-29, 2023, the Beatlefest festival will unite the cities of Liverpool and Seville, according to Festival Director, Marta G. Navarro, who presented details of the event at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid.

There will be all-day concerts and activities inspired by the Fab Four in poor areas of Seville such as Tres Barrios and Amate, and there will also be performances in the ‘Tiny Desk’ format, with several musicians around a table playing Beatles songs, she said. There will also be non-stop, 45-minute-long concerts throughout the day and into the early hours of the morning.

As well as this, the festival will also have a live talk with Pattie Boyd, George Harrison’s first wife, and with Klaus Voormann, a close friend of The Beatles who acted as the band’s photographer and sometime bassist.

Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn will also be in Seville, as will a world expert in Beatles autographs, Juan Agüeras.

Among the Beatles paraphernalia on display will be the original door of George Harrison’s house, all with the aim of emulating the spirit of Liverpool’s Beatle Week, the Beatlemania event par excellence.

For Navarro, Liverpool and Seville “are two very similar cities, with a great industry and very active ports”, and now “they are going to be united forever through this idea, which we want to have continuity over time”.

Organisers have also confirmed that the Juan Carrión Foundation, named after the famed teacher who taught English in Spain using Beatles lyrics and who inspired the Spanish film ‘Living is Easy with Eyes Closed’ (a highly recommended watch for Beatles fans interested in John Lennon’s time filming in Almeria, Spain), will lend some documents from its collection.
