ARCHIVED - Mass Covid screenings in worst affected Catalan towns to cut transmission chains
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
On Wednesday 26th August, the Department of Health in Catalonia is undertaking three more mass screenings to detect COVID19 infections in three districts; La Seu d'Urgell, Vic and Alcarràs, and as in the other intensive screenings carried out in recent days in other locations, the aim of these two new campaigns is to help find people who are carriers of the virus. unknowingly and cut the chains of disease transmission.
In the case of La Seu d'Urgell, the screening will last until Friday and will be offered voluntarily to restoration workers who have not had a PCR in the previous days and to the entire population aged between 16 and 50 years, since it is in this age group where most of the current positives in the area are detected.
The collection of samples will be in the multipurpose room of the civic center El Passeig de la Seu d'Urgell, from 10 to 14 hours and from 16 to 19 hours and will be carried out with staff of the CAP of La Seu d'Urgell , reinforced by other professionals from other CAPs in the Pyrenees, as well as staff from the Sant Hospital Foundation. The samples will be processed at the Arnau Hospital in Vilanova de Lleida.
To facilitate a better distribution of the voluntary population to take the test, the following schedules have been established:
Wednesday 26 August: catering workers (bars, restaurants and other places)
Thursday, August 27: general population between 16 and 35 years
Friday, August 28: general population between 35 and 50 years
During these days it is intended to perform between 300 and 500 tests every day, which could test about 10% of the population of La Seu d'Urgell in the last week.
All those people who have symptoms or have been contacts of positive patients should not go to mass screening, but will be scheduled from primary care and Covid Managers in a parallel circuit.
In Vic, screening for people between 15 and 45 years old
As for the city of Vic , the tests will also last until Friday and will take place in the Community Area of Passeig de la Generalitat, 33 and are aimed at asymptomatic populations between 15 and 45 years.
The Community Space will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. In this facility, samples will be collected to perform a PCR on all residents who voluntarily attend, who are residents of the Remei neighborhood, and have not recently undergone a PCR for the detection of SARS-CoV- 2.
Finally, in the town of Alcarràs , the screening will take place tomorrow Wednesday from 9:30 to 13:00 and from 15:30 to 19:00. It will be in a mobile health area installed by the Medical Emergency System (SEM) behind the Alcarràs primary care center (CAP). The target population of the screening is both adults and minors, especially linked to the field of farming, family environments of fruit and vegetable companies and family environments of residential spaces.
In addition, a sample of minors will be subjected to a serological test to estimate the level of immunity in a territory where high incidences have been recorded in a sustained manner.
Please note that the PCR test is free and to perform it you must provide names and surnames, address, contact telephone number and, if available, present the Individual Health Card (TSI). The results of the test can be consulted approximately in 48 hours through ‘My Health’.
