However, the pandemic remains a part of everyday life and while even one Covid-related fatality is one too many, the Region of Murcia is recovering strongly and today has the lowest incidence rate in the country.
The intensive care units have emptied again and Covid has failed to claim any lives this week.
Coronavirus infections
A total of 465,285 cases of coronavirus have been detected in the Region of Murcia since the beginning of the pandemic, with just 133 new infections registered in the last week.
Of the total cases, 92,486 of which have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60, compared to 92,345 a week ago.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate has dropped by a further three points this week, falling to 23.78 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
In addition, the 7-day figure is now less than half the two-week number (9.75), a reliable indication that cases of Covid will continue to decrease.
After a remarkable drop at the start of the month, hospital pressure has remained stable and relatively low according to the report released by the regional health authorities on Monday March 13.
There are currently just 16 patients admitted for Covid in the Region, compared to 17 admissions last week. And ICU occupancy has again been reduced to zero as there are no patients being treated in intensive care at the moment.
For the first time this year, no new Covid-related fatalities have been registered, keeping the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis at 2,531.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,285,350 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 92.8% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.2% of people are now double jabbed.
