ARCHIVED - Murcia Region reaches 200 deaths and 8,000 active covid cases
The total number of cases detected since the pandemic began is 18,999
Technical spokesperson for the Covid-19 Monitoring Committee of the Region of Murcia, Jaime Pérez, reported on Friday that 644 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in the Region of Murcia during the last 24 hours, the fruit of more than 4,200 PCR tests carried out during this same time period.
This brings the number of active cases of coronavirus in the region to 8,127 and the total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic to 18,999.
24% of the positives being detected occur in the population aged between 15 and 29 years old, 73% are in the under 50's and more than 30% of confirmed Covid cases are asymptomatic and, therefore, "are very difficult to detect," he added.
"We have to be aware that anyone by our side who seems to be healthy can be infected," he said.
That is why he insists that "we must limit social activity and avoid meetings of family and friends without preventive measures, since they cause 70% of cases." In addition, he stated that "Spain is not Sweden and fortunately we relate to our family and friends and we have to protect them."
Of the new infections, 144 have been diagnosed in Murcia City, 118 in Totana, 52 in Molina de Segura, 49 in Cartagena, 40 in Lorca, 31 in Jumilla, 13 in Santomera, 12 in Alcantarilla, 12 in Alguazas, 12 in Fuente Álamo, 12 in La Unión, 11 in Archena, 11 in Mazarrón, 11 in Torre Pacheco, 11 in Las Torres de Cotillas, 10 in Alhama de Murcia, 10 in Cieza, 8 in San Javier, 7 in Ceutí, 6 in Caravaca de la Cruz and the rest are distributed around various municipalities in smaller quantities.
The graphic shows the number of cases per 100,000 of population by municipality. Totana is by far and away the municipality currently causing the most concern.
Note, the first figure shown below is the actual number of cases diagnosed in the last 7 days, the second is the IA rate for the last 7 days (number of cases per 100,000 of population): In brackets the number of cases is indicated as either a positive or negative compared to the situation on Thursday, taking into consideration that patients are recovering and being removed from the list all the time)

Graphic; blue indicates covid hospital admissions, red the number of patients in ICU, showing acertain stability this week.
Hospitalisations:
Jaime Pérez clarified in his presentation that the high percentage of new infections "is the result of the strategies that the Health Department is carrying out in the active search in the towns that have registered the most cases in recent days."
Although the number of cases is considerably higher than in previous weeks, "hospital admissions are stabilized", and the percentage of cases this week is "similar to that of last week."
Two more people have been hospitalized in the last 24 hours, making a total of 325. One additional patient has entered intensive care, making a total of 58. The remainder of those affected, 7,802, are in home isolation with mild symptoms.
Graph shows the recent fatalities pattern:
Fatalities
Two deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours; two 85-year-old men from Archena and Molina de Segura. These bring the fatalities total to 200 and the total fatalities this month to 40 and is the seventeenth consecutive day on which fatalities have been reported.
Recoveries.
The total number of recoveries is now 8,966 from the 17,293 PCR tests taken to date.
No further restrictive measures planned
Jaime Pérez stated that the Health Department is not considering applying any new restrictive measures at the moment and also stated that, at the moment, the Ministry has no evidence that there have been any cases of reinfection by the virus in the region.
More than 10,500 complaints
The Ministry of Health has received more than 10,500 complaints for non-compliance with current regulations, about 800 so far this week. Most of these complaints continue to be for non-compliance with the use of a protective mask, followed by non-compliance with the prohibition of drinking in the street and the closing hours in bars. There has also been an increase in complaints for smoking without complying with the minimum safety distance and for excess people in groups.
Antigen testing begins on Monday and Murcia buys more antigen tests
On Monday, the new antigen tests will begin in the region, giving results in 15 minutes, and helping to speed up the detection of new infections. The new tests will principally be used in Jumilla, Totana and Lorca as these are the three municipalities which are currently causing the most concern for the Health Department.
On Friday, the president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, has reported the purchase of a further half a million antigen tests bringing the total purchased by the regional government of Murcia to one million.
