Hospital and intensive care pressure have also decreased this week in the Murcia Region
The latest update from the health authorities on the coronavirus pandemic in the Region of Murcia is mostly positive, with a strong decline in hospitalisations, daily infections and the cumulative incidence rate.
As the health situation improves, demand for home-testing kits has also plummeted in Murcia and throughout the rest of Spain. Between July 25 and 31, the sale of over-the counter antigen tests fell by 13% in the Region but interestingly, this is actually the smallest drop recorded in the country. The average in Spain was 30%, with demand falling in Navarra by a huge (57%).
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered 1,072 new cases of coronavirus since the last update, 205 of which were recorded on Monday August 8, a good decrease on the 416 infections registered in the last health report published on August 4.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 451,328.
Of the total cases, 81,234 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Monday show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has dropped even further to stand at 196.92 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The average incidence over a two-week period also reflects this slowdown, decreasing significantly from 568.51 cases last week to 487.73 today.
There has been a good drop in hospital pressure in last few days: There are currently 246 people hospitalised for Covid in Murcia, compared to 281 in the last update, 12 of whom are being treated for more serious conditions in the Region’s ICUs (a decrease of 3 patients).
Eight more Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,388.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,103,972 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.81% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.82% of people are now double jabbed.
