ARCHIVED - No more coronavirus data on weekends and holidays: Murcia Covid update March 3
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Daily infections stabilise at around 500 in the Region of Murcia while hospital pressure continues to ease
Giving a strong indication that the sixth wave of the coronavirus pandemic is well and truly coming to an end in Murcia, the regional health authorities have announced on Thursday March 3 that the Epidemiology Service will from now on not be reporting on Covid data at the weekends or on holidays.
“For the moment, the data will continue to be sent from Monday to Friday and, depending on the evolution of the pandemic, in a few weeks they will be published directly on the Murcia Salud website,” the Ministry reported.
The Region appears to have stabilised at around 500 daily cases on average and this trend was continued on Wednesday March 2, when an additional 538 infections were reported, a figure similar to Tuesday.
Of the total number of infections, 152 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 88 to Cartagena, 32 to Molina de Segura, 25 to Lorca, 23 to Águilas, 21 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 17 to Cieza, 17 to Torre Pacheco, 13 to Mazarrón, 12 to San Javier, 12 to Totana, 10 to Yecla, 9 to La Unión, 9 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 9 to Alcantarilla. The remaining infections are distributed across the other municipalities.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 372,023 people have been diagnosed with Covid while 360,238 patients have fully recovered.
Cumulative incidence rate
This all-important indicator is decreasing daily and on Wednesday March 2 the 14-day incidence rate has dropped a further 20 points to stand at 634 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The number of active cases has rebounded slightly to 9,623 although it remains firmly below the 10,000 mark, something which hadn’t happened since December before this week.
Fatalities
The positive data indicates that there may well be a day without Covid-related fatalities in the near future, but for now, the death toll continues to grow.
Three deaths were registered on March 2, all men, aged 78, 82 and 92, two from the Vega Media health areas and one from Murcia Oeste.
Hospitalisations
Hospital pressure continues to drop and admissions have fallen to 209, 19 fewer than the previous day. In addition, the number of patients being treated in the Region’s ICUs has fallen to 35 (down from 39 the day before).
Vaccination data
Since Spain’s vaccination campaign began in December 2020, 91.48% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 82.18% of people are now double jabbed.
Data at a glance from Wednesday March 2:
Positives diagnosed in the last 24-hour period: 538
