ARCHIVED - One more death but only 5 new coronavirus cases in Murcia on Sunday
The latest data are among the most encouraging since the pandemic reached the Costa Cálida
The most recent daily update on the coronavirus pandemic in the Region of Murcia, which was made public at 21.00 on Sunday, provided more indications that the situation appears to be gradually being brought under control, especially in respect of the number of new cases confirmed – just five more positive tests are reported, the lowest figure since 15th March, the day the state of emergency came into effect throughout Spain.
The five new cases were confirmed after 540 PCR tests and 11 rapid antibody tests were performed – fewer than the 1,000 per day which have been promised but more than were being carried out a couple of weeks ago – and at the same time the numbers of patients admitted to hospital and those in intensive care both fell, to 128 and 30 respectively. Unfortunately one more fatality was reported, the latest victim being another former resident of a home for the elderly and/or disabled, bringing the cumulative total in Murcia to 117, but the number of active confirmed cases continues to fall slowly and now stands at 880, including 752 patients under observation in their homes.
Meanwhile, the number of patients to have overcome the virus continues to rise and now stands at 662, ten more than were reported in the previous daily bulletin.
Since the first case was reported in the Region of Murcia on 7th March there have now been 1,659 positive diagnoses, 288 of them in homes for the elderly and the disabled, with this group accounting for over half of all deaths (60). These latest data are among the least negative to have occurred over the last five weeks, but they should be treated with great caution, especially as it has become common for the figures at the weekend to appear more encouraging due to delays in reporting new cases.
Remember: LOCKDOWN MEANS LOCKDOWN. STAY AT HOME. STAY SAFE AND DO YOUR BIT TO REDUCE THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS.

These are designed to filter locally specific information and may be used by clubs, charities, any of the businesses who work with us to ensure information is available to residents in English and for those living in the specific areas. They are not buy and sell groups, do not accept any bickering or argumentative so and so's, are not "open for any old rubbish" pages, and are not trying to compete with your local comunity groups, they are specifically for sharing good, relevant local information and we hope you will use them for that during this difficult time.

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
Sensible precautions
The advice being issued to members of the public by medical authorities all over the world coincides on the following points:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
