ARCHIVED - Pregnant woman becomes coronavirus victim in a Galicia hospital while her baby is stillborn
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The husband and father has tested negative for Covid-19
The latest victims of the coronavirus in Spain on Sunday, when the death toll reached its peak so far at 838, include a 37-year-old pregnant woman in A Coruña, in the north-western region of Galicia, and the child she was carrying, who was stillborn in the local Hospital Materno Infantil Teresa Herrera.
The woman, a resident of Carballo, is reported to have suffered from existing chronic medical conditions (although some family members have denied that this was the case) and began to feel unwell on Saturday, when she presented a high fever. On Sunday morning she was admitted to hospital after going into labour and a test for Covid-19 was performed prior to her entering an operating theatre for a Caesarian. Unfortunately, complications arose and the woman died, while her baby was stillborn: her husband has since tested negative for Covid-19.
By Monday the number of deaths across Spain due to Covid-19 had risen to 7,340

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
Sensible precautions
The advice being issued to members of the public by medical authorities all over the world coincides on the following points:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
