ARCHIVED - Spaniards over-indulge in their first taste of freedom for 6 weeks
Family groups fail to maintain social distancing all over the country
After six weeks of lockdown the streets of Spain regained some of their usual lively atmosphere on Sunday as children were allowed out of their homes for the first time since the state of emergency was declared on 14th March, but unfortunately the rules for their long-awaited return to the open air were far from strictly observed in many cases across the country.
It had been specified that children should be allowed out once a day, for a maximum of one hour, in the company of one adult and within one kilometre of their homes, all the while maintaining social distancing and wearing facemasks and protective gloves if possible, but in numerous cases the need for caution was disregarded, particularly in respect of the limit of one accompanying adult. Groups of grown-ups were a common sight all over the country, and choosing which parent was to accompany the youngsters obviously proved to be too difficult a task for many couples as they strolled alongside offspring on bicycles, roller skates and scooters.
Other adults took the opportunity to wash the car or go for walks in the countryside despite not being accompanied by children, blatantly ignoring the often-repeated warnings that to disregard the state of alarm could lead to a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, and in the Region of Murcia the arrival of warm, sunny weather on Sunday morning only served to exacerbate the problem as the streets buzzed with life after the traumatic start to the spring this year.
Time will tell, of course, but if a large proportion of the population continues to pay no attention to the warnings it may yet prove necessary to re-introduce the restrictions on movement which the government intends to gradually phase out over the next few weeks…
Remember: LOCKDOWN MEANS LOCKDOWN. STAY AT HOME. STAY SAFE AND DO YOUR BIT TO REDUCE THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS.

Our local area groups are as follows. These are designed to filter locally specific information and may be used by clubs, charities, any of the businesses who work with us to ensure information is available to residents in English and for those living in the specific areas. They are not buy and sell groups, do not accept any bickering or argumentative so and so's, are not "open for any old rubbish" pages, and are not trying to compete with your local comunity groups, they are specifically for sharing good, relevant local information and we hope you will use them for that during this difficult time.

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
Sensible precautions
The advice being issued to members of the public by medical authorities all over the world coincides on the following points:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
