ARCHIVED - Sunny skies and highs of 20 degrees this weekend: Alicante weather Feb 2-5
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Daytime temperatures will rise over the next few days in Alicante province, although it will remain cold at night
The weather in Alicante province looks set to take a welcome turn over the next few days with a continued rise in daytime temperatures thanks to the arrival of an anticyclone bringing a mass of warm air.
Although there will be a marked improvement during the day, nighttime temperatures will remain low.
Director of the UA Climatology Laboratory, Jorge Olcina, points out: "The nights will continue to be cold. Not so much in coastal areas, where minimum temperatures are expected to be above 10ºC, but in inland areas where the cold air residue and frost processes will continue."
However, this cold air is not expected to last and the outlook for the coming weeks is certainly brighter.
"If the forecasts are fulfilled, temperatures will be above normal in February with the arrival of warmer air masses. We will definitively leave behind these cold situations that have been characterising the weather over the last fortnight," added Olcina.
Low cloud or clear skies mark the start of Thursday February 2, with morning mist and fog. Inland frosts will be locally heavy although the mercury will rise slightly. A light wind from the north and west is forecast in the morning, with intervals of intensity on the coast; turning to light east and southerly winds from midday.
Alcoy: 2ºC to 14ºC
Alicante: 6ºC to 16ºC
Denia: 5ºC to 15ºC
Elche: 3ºC to 17ºC
Orihuela: 3ºC to 17ºC
Again, Friday February 3 will get off to a cloudy start in parts of the province, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) but this will give way to clearer skies and a slight rise in temperatures, although frost is likely inland. Light variable wind, predominantly westerly, will tend towards easterly in the afternoon, and marginally more blustery along the coast.

Elche: 3ºC to 17ºC
Orihuela: 3ºC to 17ºC
The outlook for Saturday February 4 is low cloud or clear skies, and low layers of morning mist and weak frost inland. Thermometers will reach 20ºC in parts of the province, accompanied by a light westerly wind, although there will be intervals of slightly stronger south-westerly gusts on Alicante coast in the afternoon.
