€8.5 million housing development approved near Cartagena Port

187 homes are planned in the Santa Lucía area of Cartagena and are part of a major investment, which includes the waterfront and public services

The Cartagena Council has approved plans for a major new residential development in Santa Lucía. They have granted a building licence for 187 new homes on Calle Cabo de Aguas, which is located between Cartagena's Santa Lucia Hospital and the port area. This project is part of a bigger plan to totally regenerate this neighbourhood, with the local council saying it is one of the city’s fastest-changing neighbourhoods. 

The housing development will also have 187 storage units, 191 parking spaces, a swimming pool, and communal areas, creating a large modern residential complex designed to meet growing housing demand.

It will be built on a 10,708-square-metre site and will have an investment of €8.5 million. 

The Mayor of Cartagena Noelia Arroyo said, “The Santa Lucía area is set to become home to some of Cartagena's largest infrastructure projects, including major developments in security, healthcare and the justice system. At the other end of the neighbourhood, the port is undergoing extensive redevelopment, with new waterfront promenade areas taking shape. We are convinced that these investments will drive the renewal of the district, and these almost 200 new homes are proof of the fresh momentum already underway.”

Santa Lucía is at the heart of many projects planned for Cartagena, like the City of Justice and the Security Park, as well as the waterfront transformation.

Mayor Arroyo also spoke about the importance of investing in housing and has promised to unlock more land for development, auction building plots, streamline planning procedures, and reduce administrative delays. 

With the Region seeing an unprecedented rise in property prices due to increased demand and a limited supply, these new homes should ease the pressure in Cartagena while also transforming the Santa Lucía neighbourhood.
