A TikTok video has gone viral of a brave TUI flight attendant telling a group of abusive passengers that "enough is enough" as she confronts them over their behaviour during a flight on Christmas Eve from London Gatwick to Lanzarote, Spain.
The flight attendant continued to challenge the group after they became rowdy: "This is a family flight. Everybody zip it, lock it, put it in your pocket. If I hear one more remark from anybody, I will be ringing the pilots and they will be getting the police. I have had enough."
The woman's actions were applauded by those passengers around her at the time and have since been praised online by the millions of people who have viewed the video. The footage was recorded by a traveller who has stated that the group had caused chaos throughout the flight and made racist comments to herself and her British-Iranian companions on board by saying "go home to your country".
In the clip, one of the party can actually be heard shouting: "Speak English. We're not in Pakistan. English." The person who filmed the incident posted the clip to her TikTok account for the first time earlier this month.
The girl has since said that her group, which included her six-year-old niece, husband, brother and sister, all received racist abuse from the outset of the journey and all of the passengers were unhappy with the way in which the group was behaving.
The girl who filmed the video said that "We normally talk in English but switched to Farsi for a minute. They started calling us "P***s” and being very rude because we changed our language."
The girl continued by saying that the group "occupied several rows, including the one immediately behind us, and their kids were running along the aisle and the adults were shouting across to their kids and each other. The passengers on the flight were not comfortable to begin with. Everyone was looking at them."
However, this was not the end of the problems for the family who had been the victims of the attacks. During the holiday, the niece and sister of the girl who had filmed the incident then saw the bullying passengers during a camel ride experience. They were then sent into a panic because they believed that they would be targeted again.
The two groups then returned to the UK on the same flight and victims notified the crew. The captain then told the group that the plane would immediately divert at the first hint of trouble. Tui has since been in contact regarding the incident but the victims feel let down by the whole experience.
In a letter to the victims written by TUI, they said, "We understand you were disappointed with the service and behaviour of some passengers. We acknowledge that you felt uncomfortable during the flight, leading you to report the behaviour of these customers to the cabin crew and we are very sorry for any inconvenience or distress that this may have caused."
Finally, the group received £25 in compensation from the airline, which was 5% of the total price of the flights.
