Watch the strange new Andalucia tourism video starring Peter Dinklage

Game of Thrones’s very own Tyrion Lannister narrates the edgy, modern Andalucia tourism campaign
You’ll probably need to watch it more than once to really ‘get it’, but Andalucia’s new tourism campaign has everyone talking, not least because it stars world famous actor Peter Dinklage, best known for his role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones.
The strange creation aims to highlight the impact of the region’s culture, heritage and historical legacy in a modern, edgy way that will lure travellers away from the more traditional destinations and is certainly a huge departure from the traditional images of picturesque ports and rolling hills.
The inimitable actor opens the video by telling viewers he knows a place that “will break you into a thousand pieces. That will enter through those cracks. And will stay and live in you.”
We’re then flooded with images of some of Andalucia’s most iconic sights and famous faces as the music picks up pace, before Dinklage concludes by warning us to be “careful of the Andalucia crush.”
Presenting the area’s novel promotional campaign this week, Tourism Minister Arturo Bernal said “it was necessary to rethink the identity of Andalucia, change the concept that has been sold until now of our land abroad.”
The ultimate message, he added, is that nowhere “can compete with Andalucia.”
The video shows clips of Manhattan and Berlin, destinations that might be able to compete with the Spanish community in terms of climate and services, “but that cannot come close to the cultural heritage of our region.”
With an investment of 38 million euros, the wider campaign will tour emblematic spaces like Westminster Bridge and Times Square, travelling as far as Mexico, Canada, Japan and China.
Such far-reaching broadcasts, according to Bernal, will bring together a potential audience “of hundreds of millions of people, who are going to receive a loud and clear message: if you come to know Andalucia you will not be able to forget about it, it will stay inside you and you will want come back, again and again, because Andalusia crushes you.”
