ARCHIVED - Covid incidence plummets almost 11 points: Murcia pandemic update Feb 21
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
This important coronavirus indicator is now 17 points below the national average in Spain
So far this year, the Region of Murcia has experienced its fair share of ups and downs in relation to the coronavirus pandemic but the latest report published on Monday February 20 shows that all of the major indicators for the health crisis have reduced. The stand-out has to be the cumulative incidence rate, which plummeted by nearly 11 points and is now far below the Spanish national average.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 130 new cases of coronavirus in the latest report published by the health authorities on Monday February 20, which is 26 fewer positives than on the same day last week.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 464,087.
Of the total cases, 92,061 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative rate has taken a significant nosedive this week, dropping to 36.27 infections per 100,000 inhabitants – that’s a decrease of 10.98 points. In addition, the 7-day figure is far less than 50% of the two-week number, which means that the situation is still relatively stable.
Hospital pressure has taken another welcome downturn with 27 patients currently admitted for Covid (a decrease of 3 since last Monday), 2 of whom are being treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICUs (2 fewer).
Two additional Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,526.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,278,780 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 92.8% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.2% of people are now double jabbed.
