ARCHIVED - Daily infections drop but hospitalisations increase: Murcia Covid update Jan 3
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
There are currently only two people being treated in intensive care in the Region of Murcia
While there has been no dramatic upswing in pandemic data during the celebrations to welcome 2023, the latest report published by the Murcian regional health authorities on Monday January 2 presents something of a mixed picture. Over the last week, daily infections and the vital cumulative incidence rate have remained relatively stable, and there are still only two patients being treated in the Region’s ICUs.
However, the number of people hospitalised with the virus continues its up and down trend, and there’s been a significant increase over New Year.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 384 cases of coronavirus in the latest update, a slight drop on the 403 infections recorded a week ago.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 463,470.
Of the total cases, 90,227 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided on Monday January 2 show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has taken a bit of an upswing in recent days, increasing from 55.17 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 64.93. This could be an indication that infections will grow.
However, the more important average incidence over a two-week period has remained stable at 122.54 cases.
Hospital pressure has increased considerably with 46 patients currently admitted for Covid (an increase of 8 since last Monday), two of whom are begin treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICU (no change).
Four additional Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,496.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,256,769 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 94% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.60% of people are now double jabbed.
